Club Runs (Training Rides) Road Bikes
During
the non-racing season (usually early September to early
April), Velocity Bikes Cycling Club organises club rides
which are known as 'Club Runs'. These rides are normally
ridden at a nice steady pace, with an occasional sprint
for a village sign thrown in.
You don't have to belong to VBCC to go on
the rides initially, however, if you come out regularly,
we expect that you will join the club.
It's a good way for racing members to unwind
from the busy racing season and to get the club members
all together again. The distances on our club runs vary,
depending on the weather and how many riders meet up.
Usually the rides are anywhere between
40 to 60 miles in length. After the christmas holiday
period, our club runs start to become training rides.
These training rides are taken a lot more seriously and
further in distance (50 to 90 miles). The speed also increases
as we have "Burn ups" and "thru and off"
sessions towards the end of the rides.
Both our club runs and training rides are
open to all and many riders from other clubs come along
and join us, but a degree of fitness would be necessary.
You should also read the Club Run Code
of Conduct. Don't worry, it's only a couple of pages,
but it contains important information about what you should
bring with you, and how you're expected to ride in the
group.
Thanks for reading this far, and enjoy your ride!
Our Meeting Point and Route Dates
Our
club runs/training rides start at about 9.30 am most
Sunday mornings and we all
meet up at Vélocity Bikes, 319 London Road, North
End, Portsmouth. (see map).
Usually we wait for about 10 minutes just incase riders
are late for whatever reason, but any longer then we
usually head off.
If anyone punctures we all wait and we
re-group after any hills.
We won't leave anyone stranded to fend
for themselves, but as stated above a level of fitness
is required as some of the terrain traveled over will
be tough (i.e. lots of hills).
