Introduction

Velocity Bikes began in September 2001, as a family run business. Its modest beginning was from a small property in London Road, North End, Portsmouth.  It was Tina that suggested making a go of it on their own, as Michael had been in the trade for more than 20 years, having gained invaluable technical and business experience as a workshop manager and shop manager.

 

Mike previously worked for Wheels in Lee-on-the-Solent and learned a great deal with Phil Scott.  He always believed he would run his own cycle shop but was waiting for the right time to take this big step and go it alone.

 

Tina and Mike have watched Velocity Bikes grow and grow and are very pleased as to how the business is progressing.  They are now in a bigger property which is two doors along from the original shop in London Road.

 

Velocity Bikes main brands are as follows: Gary Fisher, Viner, Orange, Santa Cruz, Felt, Ridgeback, Genesis, Dawes, Ridgeback and Mercian. 

The staff at Velocity Bikes are trained to the highest standards and are experts in their own fields. All workshop technicians are CyTech qualified and we carry out regular in-house training.

 

Mike Wickham is very knowledgeable in all areas and carries out most of the Bike Fitting and Custom Building, whether it is road, mountain bikes or tourers, but finds the BMX side of things mind blowing so he leave that to Toby!

 

Toby Gilbert (formerly Portswood Cycles) specialises in Dirt jumping, Trials, Free ride and BMX. Toby spends most of his time repairing and maintaining customer’s bikes in the workshop along Mike.

 

Tina Wickham will be found on the shop floor either serving at the till when the shop is bursting at the seams with customers or giving advice on the family, hybrid side of things. Now trained in handerling all Polar Heart Rate Monitors she can give you the best advice on buying Polar products.  Tina also carries out the behind the scene work that all good businesses need to run smoothly.  Tina is the face behind Velocity Bikes Cycling Club and keeps all members informed on what’s going on.

 

Velocity Bikes has an unsurpassed history in corporate bike supply and servicing.
