What's involved in this class?
Overview
There are seven adjusters in the gear system on a standard bike. This module explains how to set them for perfect gear operation. Students will assemble and set-up a complete derailleur drivetrain under expert supervision.
 
Theory
The general principles of the transmission roller-chain and derailleur gears. Comparison of different gear systems and brands. ‘Gear Inch’ ratio calculation.
 
Practical
Fault finding, damage and wear assessment inspection. Degreasing, cleaning and lubrication. Hanger alignment. Cassette fitting and removal. Gear component fitting and cabling. Derailleur capacity restrictions and chain length setting. Correct setting of B-screw, cable tensioners, parallelogram stops and cable tensioners. Chain line and chain tension for fixed, singlespeed and hub-geared bikes.
 
What do I need to bring?
Bringing a packed lunch is recommended. All personal protective equipment is provided. All delegates must own a copy of the course text book, the Park Tool Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair, 2nd Edition. This normally costs £24.99, but a Park Tool School concessionary price of £19.99 will apply when delegates book their first Park Tool School module.
 
What time do I need to be at Park Tool School?
Park Tool School modules take place on Sundays, starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. There will be a half hour break for lunch.
 
When is Park Tool Drivetrain School?
This module is on Sunday May 27th 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It may be possible to provide repeat classes, subject to demand, if any module is heavily over-subscribed.
 
How much does this class cost?
