Field of expertise.
Road bikes and Mountain bikes. Everyday running of the business, marketing, providing quotations and specification for custom builds, Bike Fitting. I am also CyTech qualified up to the advanced level, over twenty years as a mechanic, so a lot of time spent in the workshop servicing, repairing and custom building bikes.

Favorite task within Velocity Bikes.Mike road racing
Coming up with the next money saving idea for our customers and running maintenance classes. If time allows or if a customer has booked me for their custom build, I love unpacking the wrapped components and building their dream bike. After all the planning that goes into these builds, I know it’s going to look great and be straight forward.

Dream bike.
Well working with all the great bike parts over the last 23 years, it’s a hard one to call. I would say if it’s a mountain bike it would be my new Genesis Latitude Ti with Shimano XTR and DT forks. I do love full suspension bikes Mike mountain bike racingso that would be a Trek Fuel EX.  On the other hand – A road bike would be a Trek Project One with Shimano Dura Ace Di2 with Bontrager finish kit. After custom building most brands, the Trek Project One now needs beating, untill other manufactures catch up; this is the best road bike for me.

Best cycling experience.
I’ve had a couple, being invited to ride up Mont Ventoux by Trek was great as it’s a tough climb with spectacular views. The second was a trip the Velocity Bikes Cycling Club had in 2006 to Coed y Brenin in Wales. The weather was baking hot (the last summer we had) and their were 14 other like minded MTBers, packing in as much riding we could over two days, the ice cold beers, great pub food and sleeping under the stars, bliss!

Best cycling result.
I think winning the Isle of Wight GP in 1990, after a three man break away on the last lap. I rode away on the Blackgang climb to win with a good little gap. I came home with over £350 which was a lot then and it’s hard to get a good prize list in races today. Along time ago now, so I settle for having fun and enjoying my riding.

Favorite food.
This is going to sound cheesy, but a lovely fresh green salad with an omelet or Fillet steak (yumee) and Tina’s home made shepherds pie (well all her cooking is good) or if I’m going to be bad it’s chocolate from the fridge.

Who’s your mentor?
Who needs a mentor when you are me!

Favorite music.
The 80’s and 90,s music takes me back to when I was a leaving school and stepping out into the big wide world. Music from U2, the Cure, Pink Floyd, Bjork and Prodigy.

Your Best saying.
I will have to ask a couple of people so they can let me know what cr**p I come out with.
