VELOCITY HOME MAINTENANCE SEMINARS
Much more than just maintenance classes, Velocity Home Maintenance Seminars provideGear adjustments “cycling survival guides” specified for particular disciplines. Each class will cover: basic home maintenance, troubleshooting, cleaning and lubricating, what to carry when riding, bike/equipment choice, what to wear, nutrition and a general Q&A session. We’ll also look at local clubs and where to ride. Cleaning and maintenance will be demonstrated ‘live’ on a well used bike.

What others think!
"I just wanted to say a big thank-you to the Velocity bikes team form running the road bike seminar on Tuesday. I learnt more about looking after my bike in 3 hours than in the last 5 years of cycling.

All the information is going to save me a lot of time and expense in the future and gave me the confidence to give my bike a much needed restore today.

Also great to have so many biking misnomers cleared up by a couple of experienced mechanics. I seem to have made nearly all of the common mistakes you highlighted, although not all of that was my ignorance, a lot has been given as 'advice'! - I went to buy a connex link today from my LBS, only to be told with great authority that taking my chain off to clean it was very messy and a total waste of time. (plus I really need a £35 kit)!  Anyway I did it your way without a problem.

"Thanks for the excellent maintenance course last night, it was well worth the money. It was great to cut to the chase and learn so many tips and tricks straight from experienced mechanics that would otherwise never have been discovered; not only how to do things, but equally important what not to do. When I bought my Trek Fuel Ex 5, I had visions of needing to get it into pristine condition before bringing it in for a service - how wrong could I be?! The tuition has certainly taken some of the apprehension away from potential bike failures whilst out on a night ride. It was interesting to hear your views regarding the recovery period following rides too which seem to match my experiences. I find, at 50, that the effects of exercise are often worst 48 hours after and 2-3 fairly tough rides per week seems about sustainable therefore".

When are the maintenance classes?
Seminars take place on a Wednesday evenings at the shop from 18:30, and last two to three hours. The atmosphere is friendly and intimate, with questions and comments welcomed throughout. Light refreshments will be provided free, as well as a handy fact sheet with web references to take away. Each seminar is limited to fifteen delegates, so advance booking is absolutely essential.

The classes are run by Mike, Tina and Dave. Mike has been a professional cycle mechanic for almost a quarter of a century. He has raced in several different disciplines at National level, and founded Velocity Bikes twelve years ago. Mike’s mechanical expertise is second to none. Dave has been putting together custom bikes since his mid-teens. He has been technical advisor to a high-end carbon bike brand. These days he manages the showroom at Velocity Bikes and leads regular MTB and road rides for a local club. Delegates at Velocity Bikes seminars will benefit from almost fifty years of club cycling and cycle trade experience.
