Carbon fibre is the wonder material that allows us to ride very light bikes with high strength, unrivalled efficiency and tuned comfort. No other material can match its qualities where high-performance bicycle frames and forks are concerned. However, this Formula One and Aerospace material must be treated with respect, and is very sensitive to over-tightening of attached components. A torque wrench, accurate in the appropriate range, is an absolutely necessity when dealing with carbon frames and forks. Exceeding recommended settings can result in serious and potentially dangerous damage to frames and forks. Our workshop regularly deals with the expensive damage resulting from riders over tightening stems and seat clamps. Carbon mounting paste is a further preventative measure, as it greatly reduces the torque necessary to provide secure fitting. We keep torque wrenches and carbon paste in stock, and will be happy to advise on how to use them properly. A good torque wrench at only £94.99 is an essential investment if you own a carbon bike and want to make any adjustments yourself.
