| In the last few years more
and more attention in the cycling sport has been paid to
coaching and supervision of the cyclist. So much progress
has been made, particularly in the field of training and
nutrition, that the physical performance has nearly reached
its optimum.
In order to further improve the efficiency of the cycling
movement, optimising the position on the bicycle is an absolute
prerequisite. The ultimate aim is to achieve a position
of the cyclist on his bicycle which is as efficient and
as aerodynamic as possible.
A poorly set up bicycle can in many cases result in injury
or riding discomfort. Because very often the adjustment
of the bicycle is still a matter of trial and error, it
happens more than once that an incorrect adjustment of saddle,
handlebars and shoe cleats leads to injuries.
Cycling is an imposed movement which is unnatural to human
beings and as a consequence of this unnatural movement the
slightest irregularities of physical symmetry can lead to
all kinds of complaints. The most common complaints
are:-
When determining the exact cycling position, the frame
height of the bicycle is of indirect importance. A
wrong frame size could lead to a situation in which the
bicycle can no longer be adjusted correctly. When the
frame is too small, the difference in height between saddle
and handlebars could become too large because the adjustment
in height of the stem is limited.
The top tube of a frame that is too high could be too long,
as a result of which the distance between saddle and handlebars
cannot be properly adjusted. In short, a correct frame height
is the first necessary step towards an optimal cycling position.

 Velocity
Bikes uses the Standard Analysis system which calculates
the ideal bicycle size and position of the cyclist. With
the help of a computer drawing, each client can make an
educated choice of which new bicycle fits. It can also be
used to perfectly adjust an existing bicycle.
The bike fitting service can take an hour as the measurements
need to be accurate and sufficient time is required to
achieve this. If you would like to book an appointment,
or make further enquiries about the bike fitting service
provided by Velocity Bikes, please contact Mike or Steve

The Standard Measurement Jig is used to precisely determine
six body dimensions.
- Height
- Foot length (left & right)
- Inseam
- Torso length
- Arm length (left & right)
- Shoulder width
The model of shoe (sole thickness), pedal (height) and
type of saddle are also taken into account.
